Utility Work Notification System

DTAP's Utility Work Notification System portal allows local utility companies to communicate and coordinate more efficiently through a central web-based solution. DTAP provides an online GIS-centric enterprise system that serves as a repository to aggregate project data from each entity and provide information on where there are opportunities for cost sharing, identifying project conflicts and/or preventing excavation on newly-paved roadways that are protected under the 5-year moratorium.

Conflicts

By centralizing all construction and maintenance data schedules and locations on a map DDOT is able to automate alerts about each conflicting project. This will help coordinate temporary public space occupancy and mitigate the impact these projects have on motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

Opportunities

DTAP identifies project areas where utility companies and DDOT can share costs and construction work zones. In an effort to mitigate public frustration and reduce traffic congestion DTAP will alert system users when it identifies an opportunity entities to coordinate their efforts. Reports and dashboards will show the amount of time that a project will take or a situation in which entities can partner to save costs and lessen the time that public infrastructure is unavailable during construction projects.

Suspended Streets

DTAP coordinates its roadway repaving and reconstruction with all major utilities to preserve the condition of newly-paved streets. Excavations, even when carefully restored, can degrade a newly-paved street, which increases DDOT’s street maintenance and paving costs.
